The music of Pern - the setting of many of
McCaffrey's best-selling books - as created by Tania Opland and Mike Freeman in collaboration with Anne McCaffrey.

Anne McCaffrey contacted us when she began writing Masterharper
Robinton's life story. She wanted to include some of his music
in the book, and asked if we would write it. Through a series
of unfortunate circumstances, the book was published without
the music.
But meanwhile, the concept had grown from a handful
of tunes to a full 50 minute CD of songs and instrumentals, using
Anne's lyrics from the original Pern books, plus some expanded
lyrics she wrote for this project. |

Our first collaboration with the author involved the work of Robinton, the foremost musician on Pern, a world where music is the key to everyone’s survival. No sooner had we finished that project, “The Masterharper of Pern,” than she asked us to consider a second CD based on the adventures and musical talents of another character: Menolly, a young would-be Harper from a remote seahold... here it is! |

Sunset's Gold Songbook |
Sheet music for the Sunset's Gold CD, based on the Harperhall novels and the music of Menolly. Anne expanded some of her lyric snatches (as did we), and she found, among her old files, a complete Pern ballad she wrote in 1969 that had never been published.
Song for Petiron; Sweet Sea; The Little Queen (Firelizard Song); Gatheritza; Gather Day; The Harper's Glass; Brekke's Cry; Hatching Day; Ghulees; Run! (Running Song); Sunset's Gold (Harper's Lament); Equinox; Four Hundred Turns. |
